Sister Schubert’s recent trip to Huntsville, Alabama was an amazing success! Over 900 women attended the Christian Women’s Job Corps Circles Luncheon  at the Von Braun Civic Center where Sister Schubert was the guest speaker on November 6, 2009. The event celebrated the achievements of women in the community who have overcome difficult circumstances to improve themselves, their families and those around them.

The following day, Sister conducted a cooking demonstration and book signing  to a sold-out crowd of 95 people at the 25th Annual Under the Christmas Tree Market presented by Randolph School. This was a special treat for Sister since not only did she get to raise funds for a great school, but she had the opportunity to cook with her daughter Chrissie of Chrissie Schubert’s Homemade Treats for the event!

Sister Schubert Interviewed for Food Network’s “Unwrapped”

October 15th, 2009

Sister Schubert recently enjoyed a visit from the  producer and camera crew for Unwrapped who are creating the tenth season of this favorite Food Network show. During a full day of filming at her main bakery in Luverne, Alabama, Sister told them almost everything there is to know about baking her signature yeast rolls as the crew filmed employees placing every single roll they produce in the pan by hand.

Sister was interviewed about how she started Sister Schubert’s Homemade Rolls based on her grandmother’s heirloom recipe for homemade yeast rolls. She talked to the writers about the art and science of creating yeast rolls from scratch, including the importance of using quality ingredients like fresh milk, eggs and butter – and never any artificial ingredients or preservatives.

Production wrapped up after the cameras captured a few scenes of Sister’s children and grandchildren devouring her fresh homemade yeast rolls.

The episode is due to air sometime in 2010. Stayed tuned for further details.

A Southern Biscuit and Dinner Roll Taste-Off with Nora Ephron

August 20th, 2009

Sister Schubert’s delicious rolls were just featured on SeriousEats.com – one of the most prestigious foodie blogs out there – by Nora Ephron, writer/director of the new box office hit Julie & Julia!

Here is an excerpt from the post:

Sister Schubert’s biscuits were more crumbly than flaky, but they were light and slightly crisp on the outside, tender on the inside. Pleasantly salty, they also offered a nice butter representation. We all agreed: we would happily eat SS’s biscuits any time. We were especially partial to Sister Schubert’s Parker House Style Rolls (man, those were seriously tasty), as well as her moist and slightly-too-sweet cinnamon rolls.
