Cast Your Bread Upon the Waters

Preparations for an elegant formal dinner can start weeks in advance. Making the guest list, writing out the invitations, planning the menu, polishing the silver, ironing the tablecloths and washing the formal china are only a few of the details on my checklist. While I thoroughly enjoy all that goes into hosting a formal occasion, I realize that not many of us busy working moms have the time for this. However, I don’t believe we should put off having friends and family over for a meal because we feel we don’t have time for labor-intensive preparations.

That is why I love brunch. Brunch is informal, yet has an eclectic charm that allows us to follow the ebb and flow of the day. A casual table setting paired with seasonal blossoms can be put together at a moment’s notice. The charm and style you present will put your guests at ease. Whether served indoors or out, brunch can be prepared in advance so that you can spend time with your guests and not be running in and out of the kitchen worrying about the food. After all, while the food is important, it’s the interaction with others that truly feeds the soul.
